CocoaFit in 5… How to Eat More Fruits and Vegetables!

Here are some easy ways to help a CocoaGirl get more fruits and vegetables in her diet (without slathering them in butter, sugar or bacon)… this list is definitely a “CocoaDo”!

  1. Be a Smoothie Operator: Like smoothies in the morning? Try adding frozen spinach for an extra veggie boost, and instead of using ice cream or frozen yogurt to make it thick (yall know you do it… don’t play)… use frozen fruit (especially bananas YUM)!
  2. Get your Veggie Mug on: Skip your mid-morning snack and drink a mug of hot Low Sodium Organic Vegetable Broth. It’s a shame that most of the nutrients are leached out during the cooking process. So why bother you ask?! Because a cup of veggie broth will FILL YOU UP for less than 20 calories… and you won’t want to reach for that donut that your 98 pound office mate keeps offering you (which is the second reason why you HATE HER… the first being she’s 98 pounds and can eat donuts erryday)! Make sure you get the LOW SODIUM… because salt enduced swollen ankles aren’t CocoaSexy!
  3. Pretty Please with a Cherry Tomato on Top: Make this simple relish on Sunday… use it to top your sandwiches or as an entree garnish the rest of the week (it’s great on wheat pasta): (2) medium tomatoes, (1) small red onion, (1) large pepper… green, red or yellow, (1) handful of parsley, (1/2) cucumber… seeded, (2) cloves of garlic, cider vinegar, salt and pepper. Put it in a food processor and chop it… or do it the old fashioned way with a knife. Store in the fridge… will keep for a week.
  4. Go Bowling for Health: Keep a container of fruit by the door! Sounds kinda crazy I know, but if you have to walk past a bowl of fruit everytime you come and go you will WANT to grab one and put it in your bag. Worse come to worst when that first bowl goes bad… “cause I really DID mean to grab one of them bananas”… throwing that fruit away and knowing that money could have gone to a new pair of platforms will remind you not to play with your diet or waste your hard earned dollars!
  5. Make it Rain: Pay yourself for eating healthy… ok stay with me on this.  For every serving of fruits and vegetables you eat a day, pay yourself $1. At the end of the month… use that to treat yourself for being CocoaFit and CocoaFabulous!

Ok CocoaGirls… no excuses embrace your inner herbivore and get your fruit and vegetable food fest on!
